Oldmachar Academy Christmas Concert 2017

Please see the video link below for information about this fantastic event to be held on the evening of Thursday 14th December, 2017 at the Beach Ballroom.

Christmas Concert Ticket Prices and Promotion-20icezj

This year our Primary 5 class will be taking part with the pupils from Middleton Park Primary and Oldmachar Academy.

It is great to see how our current and former pupils are developing their musical talents – this event is highly recommended to all and we would invite all families to come along if you are looking for an entertaining (and Christmas themed) evening out!

Further Information for P5 Parents (of participating children)

We are awaiting further updates from the academy in regards to the drop off and pick up arrangements. As soon as this is made available, further information will be distributed to parents via a class letter or a group call.

From reference to the previous year’s arrangements, it would be advised that the children performing should arrive early to the venue (estimated for between 6.15pm – 6.30pm) and meeting points are expected to be established for dropping off beforehand, and collection at the end of the show (either from the venue – if parents are attending the concert or at a designated meeting point at the end of the concert – for those parents unable to attend).

Mr Ford will also be attending the event and will be on hand to support the parental drop off and pick-up of any participating P5 pupils.

School Events and End of Term Update

RED NOSE DAY

Many thanks to everyone supporting our Red Nose Day activities – a special mention to Miss Moultrie (PSA) for organising the flash mob, Miss Ross and her P6/5 class for organising the gala, Mrs Yates for looking after the sales/money collected and to all children, parents and staff for making the day such fun!

We do not have a final total as yet however, given the number of red noses sold and money raised today we would estimate the figure to exceed over £600 which would be the highest amount raised to date!

A final figure will be shared via group call next week.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM SCHOOL

This term we have used a number of ways to try to keep parents up to date with things happening in school with the use of our usual Groupcall service, complimented by the introduction of a new school Twitter account @ForehillSchool (currently we have over 180 followers).

We hope, as members of the school community, that this is helping parents to feel more informed about school life and school events in general and we would welcome any feedback if you feel there are further ways we can support or inform parents.

Parent and Teacher Association Updates

The PTA will be meeting next Monday 27th March (3.15pm in the school staffroom) to make final preparations for our PTA Disco (to be held on 10th May) and to discuss support to plan a summer fayre.

At present our parent numbers on the PTA committee are reducing and it may now be a case that a fresh recruitment drive would be beneficial to maintain our numbers and in order to establish a new committee for the 2017-18. This is important in order to maintain and support many school events that benefit our children and the wider school community (please see the flyer below from the PTA and copy of most recent minutes for information on our current developments/events).

Forehill PTA Flyer 2017

Forehill Primary PTA minutes 13th March 2017

We would welcome any interest and openly invite new parents to this meeting if you are interested in joining the group and would have any ideas to share in taking future school community/fundraising events forward.

Staffing News

It is with great sadness to share the passing of Barbara Cunningham (formerly Barbara Bryce PSA). Mrs Bryce (as we have all known her) remained very much a part of our staffing team during her long illness and although she was unable to return to her much loved role, she remains very much a part of our ‘Forehill Family’. Our thoughts and best wishes are with her family at this difficult time.

A number of school staff will be in attendance to Mrs Bryce’s funeral on the afternoon of Monday 27th March so please be aware that the school office will be closed from 1.30pm onwards (although Miss Reid, Acting DHT will be located in the school office to support general enquiries).

Mr Alan Watson, our school janitor has also made the decision to retire from his post during this term (but insisted on the least amount of fuss as possible). We have regrettably honoured this request, however, we are inviting Mr Watson back to Forehill Primary in the summer term for a presentation to mark our appreciation of his service and support. Further information will be shared after the school holidays.

Currently the school is supported very well by relief janitorial cover and we look forward to welcoming Mr David Thomson as our new janitor after the Easter Break.

Reminder of Dates (Links to local and community holiday events)

The last day of the school term will be Friday 31st March.

School Easter break will begin from Monday 3rd April until Monday 17th April, school will resume for our final summer term on Tuesday 18th April.

School Updates 30.9.16

Charity Fundraiser – Dress Down/Dress Up Day next Friday 7th October

Let us introduce ourselves, we are Mae Anderson (P5), Beth Mutch (P6/5) and Cerys Milne (P6/5).

At the end of last school year we wanted to plan a fundraiser in school to raise money for Clan (Cancer charity) and Absafe (safety charity for children). With the support of the school, we would now like to share with you our fundraising plan which will be held on Friday 7th October.

We are holding a ‘Dress as you please/Dress as a superhero day’ and we would ask your child to support our charities by bringing in a small donation on the day.

One boy and one girl from each class will be awarded house points for the most unique/interesting costume.

We will also be holding the following raffles starting Monday 3rd October and closing on Thursday 6th October;

‘Guess the Teddy Birthday’ – priced at 50p per guess or £1 for 3 guesses.

‘Guess the number of Chocolates in the jar’ – prices at 50p per guess of £1 for 3 guesses.

At the end of the week, on Friday afternoon, we will be holding a special assembly for classes so that we can find out more about the work of Absafe, present our donations and we will announce the house points and prize winners.

We hope that you can support our fundraising day.

Many Thanks!

Yours Sincerely,

Mae Anderson, Beth Mutch, Cerys Milne

Primary 1, 2 and 3 Pupils – Read, Write, Count Bags Issued

Following leaflets that were issued by the Scottish Government as part of the ‘Read, Write, Count’ campaign, all P1-3 children will receive their bags to take home from school today.

Early Learning and Childcare Expansion Consultation – Survey Monkey Questionnaire

Aberdeen City Council is carrying out a statutory consultation exercise linked to the Scottish Government’s programme for the expansion of early learning and childcare. The Government’s intention is to expand the offer of funded early learning and childcare to 1140 hours per annum for some two year olds and all three and four year olds, whose parents want such a service by 2020.

It is important that we gather information from parents, carers and potential future parents regarding how best services could be provided. A series of consultation events have been organised to consider the Scottish Government’s programme of expansion of early learning and childcare entitlement.  A survey monkey questionnaire has also been launched to gather as many views as possible.

We have undertaken a strategic review of existing services and options related to the delivery of expanded provision have been identified. We would be extremely grateful if you complete the survey monkey questionnaire by clicking on the link below and give us your views on how best expanded services might be delivered in your area.

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FZZR7S5

The survey will be open for 6 weeks until Friday 28th October 2016. Please ensure you only complete one survey and thank you very much for taking the time to complete this questionnaire.

Police Scotland Consultation

Please can I ask you to consider filling out the, Policing Consultation survey – Your View Counts.

It is an opportunity for all members of the public, school pupils, education professionals, victims of crime, commercial customers, partners etc to express their views. Also, please can you forward this link to all you feel may be interested, thus giving an opportunity for as many people to have their say.

Any assistance is be greatly appreciated.

P7 Dalguise – Day 4

Started the day with another tasty cooked breakfast selection before heading off to the giant swing and jacob’s ladder courses.

Lunch was soup, and baked potato with a choice of fillings and everyone has been eating well to keep their energy up. If there have been choices children didn’t like they have also been able to make up a few of their own sandwiches instead.

The teamwork theme in the afternoon continued with a challenge course and some rifle shooting which has been really good fun. The rain has even stopped for a bit!

All rooms have been brilliant at getting tidied, organised and they are already set up for tonight’s Disco and packing for tomorrow morning. Night routines/sleep has also been really good and improving day to day!

The groups are just about to finish activities and get scrubbed up for souvenir shopping, tea and then the big disco event!!

We are packing first thing tomorrow after breakfast and then we will go for a hike/walk. Lunch will be at twelve and we will aim to depart at 1pm. Our expected return will be at 3.30pm.

School will groupcall parents after our stop in Stracathro which should mean that our bus is around 1hr from returning to school.

Looking forward to a fun final night!!!

By

P7 Dalguise – Day 3

After a cooked breakfast the groups started today with the zip slide and wall climbing. This was enjoyed by all and the children were working really well in their groups/teams.

After our lunchtime baguettes the groups learned how to build a shelter and make a fire in ‘survivor’. We also took part in canoeing and despite the heavy rain most of the children were still keen to jump into the boating pond.

Tea time came round quickly and after our choice of gammon, fish cakes or pasta we headed off for some games and then a quiz.

All rooms are fully into the room inspection/tidy, tuck shop, bed time and lights out routines. The children are very settled for sleep by 10pm and preparing for next day activities (and are keeping their rooms really tidy – we have photo evidence!!).

Time now flying by…more updates tomorrow!!

By

P7 Dalguise – Day 2

Woke this morning very early to a nice cooked breakfast and then headed out to the trapeze and abseiling.

Weather great in the morning but soon turned to rain by the time we had our pasta lunch.

Pretty drenched during problem solving and orienteering this afternoon – some tiredness signs creeping in by mid afternoon! Our tea of chicken nuggets, chips and veg was particularly popular.

After finishing our visit to tuck shop and tea, we had some parachute games and a campfire sign-a-long which featured some very funny songs (still plenty rain showers).

Children are now headed for showers or straight to bed and most are in favour of an earlier lights out due to being so tired!

More to follow tomorrow evening…

By

Dalguise P7

We have arrived safely and everyone is having a great time together. Settling in really well!

Stopped at Stracathro for a snack, visited Camperdown Wildlife Centre and the weather even brightened up for a play in the park.

Arrived at 3pm and got a tour of the site and had a nice tea of carrot soup, sausages or fish with veg and flapjacks.

Now at games before our evening activity called ‘Ambush’.

More posts tomorrow when we can get on wi-fi and post up some photos!!!

Another thank you to all in our school community for supporting our dress up day for chocolate – your donations are much appreciated and our bottle and chocolate stalls this year will be very well stocked!

Community Consultation Invitation

Please see the information below for the event to be held at Oldmachar Academy on Monday the 20th June, 6.30pm-9pm.

This event is for all those who reside, work and play in Oldmachar and all those who provide a service for Oldmachar to take part in a discussion to evaluate the quality of Oldmachar as a place and to help participants to identify priorities for the area.

Research shows that the places where we spend our time have an important impact on our lives. The way a place looks, functions and feels can influence our health and wellbeing, and the opportunities we have access to. Improving the quality of places can help to tackle inequalities.

Understanding the existing and potential strengths of a place can inform good decision making, allowing resources to be targeted to where they are most needed. This will help deliver better results over the long term.

For example;

Are there enough routes for walking and cycling? Are these given priority over cars and other traffic as much as possible?

Do routes provide obvious and direct links with the places that people want to go, such as schools, shops, parks and public transport?

This along with many other questions will be facilitated on the 20th June. We would encourage any interested community partners or residents to attend and encourage you to please pass on this invitation to any other relevant or interested parties.
